It’s Case Closed for ‘Spider-Noir’ After One Season

Hope you got your fill of Spider-Noir, because Prime Video’s not bringing the show back for season two.

The news was revealed Friday. As Deadline reports, the streamer was waiting to look at viewership numbers before making a call about the show’s future. Spider-Noir, which released all at once on Prime Video and MGM+, started strong but quickly fell off with audiences. Combine that with sizable production costs, since it was set in the ’30s and offered both color and black-and-white versions, and its fate is not such a surprise.

Spider-Noir was the first of two Spider-Man shows announced as part of a collaboration between Sony and Amazon. (The other was a solo series for Spider-hero Silk, which was never made after an attempted overhaul.) Nicolas Cage starred as Ben Reilly, a Spider-Man variant operating as a private eye and former superhero. Spider-Noir earned pretty positive reviews and later picked up nearly a dozen Primetime Emmy nominations, all in production and stunt categories.

Despite this cancellation news, it seems Sony isn’t giving up on bringing its Marvel characters to TV. Deadline reported “multiple projects” are still being developed for Prime Video, with one expected to get a series order. What that is, we don’t know, but we do know this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Cage’s Noir. In next year’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the black-and-white character will return after being absent for the last movie.
